Based on the Quattroporte Sport GT S, the “Awards Edition” celebrates the countless awards that the Maserati flagship saloon has received since its debut.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S “Awards Edition”, the latest jewel in the Maserati range, will make its official debut at the prestigious Geneva Auto Show next week. The car will be unveiled during the press conference, on Tuesday, March 2nd 2010 on the Maserati stand (n.1051) at 13:45.

Six years after its birth, the car that created the luxury sport saloon segment continues to receive accolades from the general public, automobile aficionados and the media. Maserati has decided to celebrate its success with a superlative version, which blends the elegance and sporty stylishness of the brand’s flagship, thanks to the combination of highly refined details, handcrafted finishes and features with a decidedly sporty flair.

During its six years of life, the Maserati Quattroporte has received no less than 56 awards from the most prestigious automotive and lifestyle publications in 14 countries over four continents. A global recognition for a car that has known how to renew itself over the years, still never failing to maintain the appeal of the lines and purity of the forms created by Pininfarina, which immediately made it an instant classic.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S “Awards Edition”, based on the Quattroporte Sport GT S, aims to combine in one car all the features that have made the Trident flagship a benchmark in its segment:

-the unique and elegant styling, mixed with a hint of sporting flair thanks to the eye-catching features adopted on both the exterior and interior fittings;
-driving enjoyment, because the “Awards Edition” is based on the Quattroporte Sport GT S, which boasts top-class performance and excellent handling;
-the craftsmanship of the hand-finished details which make each car unique.

The new Quarzo fuso exterior colour – a pearlescent metallic grey with a golden hue – exclusive to this model, makes the exterior instantly recognisable, and highlights the body’s elegant lines. The burnished treatment used on the exterior chrome parts, as well as on the side air vents and radiator surround, also matches the 20’’ Multi Trident dark grey rims with satin finish.

The braking system which uses dual-cast technology, is further enhanced by the hand-polished callipers both at the front and rear. With the Quattroporte Sport GT S “Awards Edition”, Maserati and Brembo are introducing on the market for the first time polished callipers, treated with high precision mechanical processes and featuring a hand finish which gives them their special mirror-like appearance and enhances their sporty credentials at the same time.

The interior also bears witness to the combination of sporting flair and craftsmanship that have always characterised the Maserati flagship saloon. The Poltrona Frau leather of the seats is combined with perforated Alcantara with a new undulated pattern, and the headlining is also in Alcantara. Completing the cabin finishes are the special brushed aluminium door sills and Piano Black satin-finish wood mouldings.

The boot is finished in black trim and features chrome details and a leather side pocket. The attention to detail has even been extended to the mats, which are made of an even richer and softer material.

A special exterior “Awards Edition” series plate completes the car’s look and makes an already unique car even more unmistakable.

The Quattroporte Sport GT S “Awards Edition” will be available in the UK as a special order in the second half of 2010, as model year 2011. Prices will be available upon application: for further information clients can contact the Maserati Info Centre on 0800 0646468 or visit the Maserati website www.maserati.com to locate the nearest Maserati dealership.

The Maserati Tramontane is a concept vehicle designed by Ondrej Jirec. Jirec’s previous work includes the Audi O concept from 2008. The Tramontane concept was developed by Jirec as part of his studies at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

The Tramontane was not conceived as a competition car, but instead an electric powered cruiser suited for scenic, winding roads.

In Jirec’s own words the Maserati Tramontane is “a lightweight electric luxury supercar. Its design philosophy is simplification and emotion. The idea behind this concept is to reduce the number of body parts, lower the overall weight, and simplify the building process by combining exterior and interior elements.”

Aside from the slippery, aerodynamic overall shape, the most eye-catching aspect of the concept’s design is the number of components and body panels which flow from the interior to the exterior. These body parts have different functions, color, material and characteristics which are designed to add different dimensions and effect the overall feel of the vehicle.

The first layer is the main glass exterior surface that essentially envelops the entire car. It is supported by a black frame which attaches to the chassis.

The second layer is composed of the headlamps and the dashboard. This single piece carries the LED headlights and flows smoothly back into the interior where it protects the speakers and interior air vents.

The third layer of the Tramontane creates the lower sections of the seats and, as it reaches the exterior, also carries the taillights. This particular part possesses very high resistance to impact. In case of side impact the seat and chassis work together to protect the occupants. But in the event of a rear collision, this part contains a crumple zone that will collapse, so the seats remain protected.

The fourth layer, placed in the front, serves as motor compartment coverage and the also as a dashboard. This element is attached to the chassis and hides motors, frame, and all the electronics.

The interior design is very clean and simple due to the fact that the Tramontane is an open car. The dashboard is dominated by a large gauge with a digital display. The interior structural pillars behind passenger seats take clues from the Maserati Birdcage and create a link to the Maserati history.

At 4,250mm (167 inches) in length the Maserati Tramontane is just 50mm (2 inches) shorter than the Lamborghini Gallardo. The 1,170mm (46 inches) height is almost identical to the Gallardo.

The proposed drivetrain for the concept is an all-electric setup. The front wheels are driven by one electric motor, while the rear wheels each get their own motor.

2010 Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line Ice Limited Edition

The limited-edition Maserati GranTurismo S MC Sport Line with Matt White “ice” finishing is here portrayed in front of the futuristic structure of the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, where it was unveiled in a dedicated event for a selected number of Maserati customers of the Middle East.

Designed to enhance the sporty DNA of the Trident, the “MC Sport Line” sums up the experience acquired on the track by the Maserati Corse racing department, whose contribution to the design of the functional components has been invaluable. The world of motor racing also inspired Maserati’s designers when it came to styling, hence the extensive use of carbon fiber.

Only twelve GranTurismos in this configuration will be produced in Modena, all for the Middle East markets. Twelve is also the number of world titles which make up the prestigious palmares of the MC12 in the FIA GT International Championship since 2005: 2 Constructors’ Cups (2005 and 2007), 4 Drivers’ Titles 4 (Bartels-Bertolini in 2006, Thomas Biagi in 2007, Bartels-Bertolini in 2008 and 2009); 5 Teams’ Titles (from 2005 onwards uninterruptedly with the Vitaphone Racing Team); 1 Citation Cup in 2007 with the gentleman driver Ben Aucott.

Furthermore, twelve are the Middle East cities where Maserati is present with a dedicated showroom: each car will feature an internal plaque with the name of the city to which it is committed.

A limited and numbered edition of the GranTurismo S MC Sport Line, finished in a Matt Bianco Fuji with eye-catching pearlescent nuances, will be dedicated to the Italian market. Only eleven customers in Italy will be able to sit behind the wheel of this exclusive car.

Maserati GB is pleased to announce the approved pricing of £95,630 (OTR) for the Maserati GranCabrio. It can be ordered now via the Maserati dealer network and the first right-hand drive examples will reach the UK showrooms in April 2010.

The Maserati GranCabrio represents the very essence of Maserati in terms of open-top cars. It’s a Maserati in the purest sense of the word and a car with a high emotional appeal: from its luscious looks and Pininfarina styling to its V8’s thrilling sound and amazing performance.

Powered by a 4.7 liter V8 delivering 440 HP, the Maserati GranCabrio features a ZF automatic six-speed gearbox and is the convertible with the longest wheelbase on the market (2,492mm).

It reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 175 mph.

The Maserati GranCabrio continues the Maserati tradition in open-top cars and joins models which have played an important role in the Modena carmaker’s history such as the A6G Frua Spyder (1950), the 3500GT Vignale Spyder (1960), the Mistral Spyder (1964), the Ghibli Spyder (1968) and the Spyder designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro (2001), the car that marked Maserati’s return to the United States.

Whilst following in the footsteps of tradition, the Maserati GranCabrio opens a new chapter, because never before have four-seater convertibles been produced at the Viale Ciro Menotti Maserati factory. Four proper seats, so that the rear passengers are not merely supporting actors, but co-stars of the journey.

Maserati offers an unrivaled personalisation programme, which has been developed with the objective of allowing each client to create a made-to-measure car. Such a level of exclusivity is a source of pride for Maserati, a small company able to devote the highest levels of care and attention to every car it builds.

The personalisation options on the Maserati GranCabrio, which is available in 14 different exterior colours, have been enhanced by six different shades for the soft top and by the introduction of two new Poltrona Frau® leather colours, Bianco Polare (Polar White) and Blu Profondità (Deep Blue). The dashboard, door panels and rear side panels are available in the new ‘Dark Chrome’ standard finish but it is also possible to choose from precious woods, such as Carbalho and Moonwood, or coloured lacquer finishes.

The Maserati GranCabrio style is unique; the possible combinations for colours and materials are endless.

In addition to the wide range of options, a bespoke four-piece leather luggage set which fits perfectly into the boot is available to order. The trolley suitcases can be ordered individually and can also be fixed on the rear seats with a security belt and an elegant leather cover will protect the seats.

October 5, 2009

A breathtaking spectacle at London’s Royal Horticultural Halls was put on to greet the arrival of Maserati’s latest creation: the GranCabrio.

Andrea Antonnicola, Managing Director of Maserati GB and supermodel and Maserati ambassador Jodie Kidd started the unveiling ceremony in spectacular fashion: as the lights dimmed, two models, whose dresses’ silk train had been draped over the sinuous lines of the Pininfarina designed vehicle, started to walk and the GranCabrio was free to dazzle the guests.

“I am extremely proud of hosting this UK Premiere of the Maserati GranCabrio – said Antonnicola – a car which has been enthusiastically received by the worldwide media after its debut at the Frankfurt Show just a couple of weeks ago. The new GranCabrio represents the completion of the Maserati range, and despite a long history of convertible cars going back over 50 years, with the iconic Mistral and Ghibli Spyder to name but a few, this is the first four-seater convertible for the Trident Marque.”

The event saw more than 400 guests attend, including celebrity chef and Maserati aficionado James Martin, London Saracens rugby star Fabio Ongaro, comedian Patrick Kielty, Major Phil Packer, Vice-president of CNH Global Eduardo Teodorani Fabbri and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

A Maserati GranTurismo S was also on display, and it was flanked by a stunning 1964 Maserati Mistral Spyder.

The first right-hand drive examples of the Maserati GranCabrio will reach the UK showrooms in April 2010 and prices will be confirmed nearer the release date.

The Maserati GranCabrio, the first four-seater convertible in the Trident carmaker’s history, will make its world wide debut on September 15 at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The introduction of the Maserati GranCabrio – the Trident’s third prong – completes Maserati’s product line-up that now consists of three different families of models: Quattroporte, GranTurismo, GranCabrio.

The Maserati GranCabrio represents the very essence of Maserati in terms of open-top cars. It’s a Maserati in the purest sense of the word: from the unmistakable style by Pininfarina to the spacious interior, from the craftsmanship of each detail to the driving pleasure and performance. The Maserati GranCabrio enriches all five senses in a shared open-air experience, without sacrificing comfort and performance. A dream car designed and built for men and women who love to live life in an understated – though sophisticated – manner. Like all the made in Maserati open-top convertibles: special cars aimed at refined connoisseurs.

In fact the Maserati GranCabrio is continuing the Maserati tradition in open-top cars, joining models that have played such an important part in the Modena carmaker’s history such as the 1950 A6G Frua Spyder, 1960 3500GT Vignale Spyder, 1964 Mistral Spyder, 1968 Ghibli Spyder and 2001 Spyder designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the car that marked Maserati’s return to the United States. In the footsteps of tradition, the Maserati GranCabrio opens a new chapter, because never before have four-seater top-down models ever been produced at the Viale Ciro Menotti Maserati factory. Four proper seats, so that the rear passengers are not merely supporting actors, but co-stars of the journey.

The Maserati GranCabrio is powered by a 4.7 litre V8, 323 kW engine and is the convertible with the longest wheelbase on the market. The Maserati GranCabrio’s roof is strictly canvas-made, emphasizing the link with the Maserati tradition.

The Maserati GranCabrio will be marketed starting next winter, and experienced by customers the world over from the following spring.

The new Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS sets another milestone in the high performance luxury saloon segment. Conceived and developed as “a real driving machine in the guise of a luxury saloon”, the Quattroporte Sport GTS is the ultimate expression of Maserati’s sportiness in the Quattroporte range.
The uniqueness of the car in its segment is denoted by some important features.

First of all, it is the only car in its segment that truly offers sporty handling thanks to a suspension set-up which further enhances the Quattroporte’s already optimal dynamic balance. The new Maserati Quattroporte Sport GTS is targeted at those customers who demand the unparalleled handling of a thoroughbred sports car even in a luxury saloon.

Secondly, it features the latest evolution of sporty automatic gear-shifting software, designed to win over committed and demanding drivers, seeking an exciting driving experience.

Last but not least, it is the only saloon in its segment with a sports exhaust which, by means of the “Sport” button, makes it possible to deploy the full power of the engine and produce a deeply enveloping and throaty exhaust note.

Powertrain overview

The technical changes to the new Quattroporte Sport GTS compared with the Quattroporte S concern four areas: the engine mapping, the gearshift management software, the suspension set-up and the exhaust system.

V8 4.7 liter engine power is increased to 323kW (440 HP) thanks to the adoption of a sports exhaust system that allows the vehicle’s power to be fully exploited;
specific gear-shifting software with new features designed to increase driving enjoyment;
front and rear suspension featuring single-rate dampers, stiffer springs and lower ride height;
sports exhaust controlled by pneumatic valves for a deep, throaty and captivating sound enhanced by large twin-oval tailpipes.

Engine

The GTS engine has been developed to favour maximum power output, whilst its emission levels conform to Euro5 regulations.

Main technical data:

Displacement: V8 4,691 cc
Power: 323 kW (440HP) @ 7,000 rpm
Torque: 490 Nm @ 4,750 rpm
Max engine speed: 7,200 rpm

Exhaust system

“NORMAL” MODE – FLAPS CLOSED
In “Normal” mode, the valves are closed forcing the exhaust gases along a long and tortuous route so that they lose their energy and are emitted with very little noise, thus ensuring on board acoustic comfort.

“SPORT” MODE – FLAPS OPENED
When the “Sport” mode is selected, the valves which were initially closed, open up through a pneumatic control and the flow of exhaust gases are channeled down a route that leads directly to the outside, providing enthusiasts with a distinctive sound, giving voice to the deep and throaty V8.

Transmission

The new Quattroporte Sport GTS is equipped with an automatic six-speed transmission developed with sportiness in mind thanks to the employment of a new and specific gear-shifting strategy: the MC-Auto Shift. Introduced for the first time on this model, it represents the ultimate evolution of the automatic transmission software in terms of sportiness and features specific characteristics which further enhance the “driving fun”.

“MC AUTO SHIFT” mode:
In Sport Automatic mode the gearshift technology exalts sporty driving. Moreover in order to optimise standing starts, the automatic gearbox offers the MC Start Strategy, which functions with the MSP off. After deactivating the MSP, the driver should press and hold the brake pedal, then start pressing the accelerator and releases the brake pedal only when the optimum revs are reached (usually between 2300-2500 rpm). This fast start strategy reduces the 0 to 100 Km/h (0-62 mph) time from 5.3 seconds to 5.1 seconds.

“MANUAL MODE”:
In manual mode the gear-shift is directly controlled by the driver, allowing the engine to reach its top speed.

In order to allow the driver to find the optimum gear-shifting point, the car features a digital “rpm indicator” on the dashboard display (same as on GranTurismo S). Moreover, the paddle shifts (Active Shifting), integrated with the steering column, present an ergonomic layout (same as on GranTurismo S) with effective results in on-the-limit driving conditions on winding roads.

“MANUAL SPORT”/”AUTO SPORT” mode:
When down-shifting, the throttle blip is matched with the SPORT-mode exhaust sound to ensure maximum driving enjoyment.

Handling

The Quattroporte Sport GTS features a sporty passive damping suspension system designed to further enhance the Quattroporte S’s already state-of-the-art dynamic balance.

The new suspension set-up reduces the front and the rear ground clearance. In addition, the spring stiffness has been increased by 30% at the front and 10% at the rear.

These new features ensure:

Greater agility when cornering and greater steering wheel responsiveness;
more grip when exiting corners;
improved cornering stability.

STYLE

Exterior

At the front, the sportier, more “aggressive” look of the new Quattroporte Sport GTS is expressed by the new black grille with concave vertical fins featuring the Trident logo with red accents, typical of the sportier versions of Maserati models. It is also further enhanced by the new headlights, in metallic titanium finish.

The Trident logo with red accents also features on the “C” pillar.

The side and the rear of the car feature a new “shadow line”, which includes black finishing around the doors, body-coloured door handles and black twin oval exhaust pipes.

New 20” Multi Trident Silver wheels are fitted as standard, together with red brake calipers and Dual Cast technology brakes.

The exterior body colour range includes all 19 colours available for the Quattroporte and the Quattroporte S.

As an option, dark chrome 20” Multi Trident wheels are available, as well as dark chrome 20” seven-spoke wheels and the “Chrome Line”, which includes chrome door line, chrome handles and chrome exhaust.

Interior

The sporty look of the interior features new M-design seats with perforated Alcantara® and leather upholstery.

The standard trim is the new Titantex: designed to further enhance the car’s sporty characteristics, this “titanium coloured” composite material, provides a light coloured trim with a remarkable 3-D effect.

The dashboard trim incorporates the “Quattroporte Sport GTS” logo.

The steering wheel features the Maserati “Active Shifting” paddles (longer for improved ergonomics).

The new additional digital rpm display on the dashboard indicates when to change gears.

The interior configuration range features ten leather colours (Avorio, Sabbia, Cuoio, Marrone Corniola, Grigio Ghiaccio, Grigio Medio, Blu Navy, Rosso Corallo, Bordeaux, Nero) which can be combined with five Alcantara® shades (Beige, Pearl Beige, Grigio, Blu Trofeo, Nero).

Among the new interior options clients can choose:

Aluminium sports pedals
Full leather upholstery, at no extra cost.
Carbon-fibre interior trim
Head lining in Alcantara® in a choice of five colours: Beige, Pearl Beige, Grigio, Blu Trofeo, Nero

NOVITEC TRIDENTE now also refines the Maserati GranTurismo S: The newly developed supercharged engine represents a jump in rated power output of the V8 engine from standard 440 hp to 600 hp / 442 kW. With it, the 2+2-seater sprints to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 315 km/h. A strikingly styled aerodynamic-enhancement package and custom-tailored 20- and 21-inch wheels lend the coupe an even more exclusive appearance. A sporty yet comfortable sport suspension provides more agile handling.

Increasing power output by using compressor technology has been the trademark of NOVITEC since its inception in 1989. The new NOVITEC TRIDENTE supercharged engine for the Maserati GranTurismo S continues this tradition.

The combustion air of the 4.7-liter eight-cylinder four-valve engine is supercharged by a mechanical cogged-belt-driven charger with a maximum boost pressure of 0.37 bars. The extensive NOVITEC TRIDENTE SPORT compressor conversion further comprises a water-to-air intercooler, a modified intake system and larger injectors. New mapping for the engine electronics ensures maximum power yield, perfect suitability for daily use and compliance with strict Euro IV emission limits.

The NOVITEC TRIDENTE SPORT compressor conversion starts at 23,681 Euros MSRP. It boosts power output of the GranTurismo S from standard 440 hp / 323 kW to 600 hp / 442 kW. Simultaneously peak torque grows from 490 Nm to 588 Nm at 5,400 rpm. Driving performance benefits accordingly: A sprint time of 4.5 seconds from rest to 100 km/h represents an improvement of 0.4 seconds over the production car. And with a sprint time of 14.6 seconds to 200 km/h the tuned 2+2-seater bests its production counterpart by a full 2.6 seconds in this discipline. Top speed grows from 295 to 315 km/h.

Another focal point of the NOVITEC TRIDENTE program is the car’s exterior. The designers have developed a package that optimizes aerodynamic properties while further emphasizing the sporty character of the coupe. All exterior components are optionally available with a clear-coated carbon-fiber finish.

The NOVITEC TRIDENTE front spoiler lips are attached to both sides of the production front apron. Their sophisticated shapes reduce aerodynamic lift on the front axle at high speeds. Rocker panels calm the airstream along the sides of the vehicle and give the coupe a longer, sleeker and lower appearance.

On the rear axle a subtle spoiler lip on the trunk lid and the diffuser for the production bumper provide the aerodynamic balance necessary for even better directional stability at high speeds.

NOVITEC TRIDENTE light-alloy wheels are yet another custom development for all Maserati GranTurismo models. The three-piece wheels with five double spokes are available in various color combinations in size 9Jx20 in front and in size 12.5Jx21 on the rear axle. They fill out the available space beneath the wheel arches perfectly. The optimal high-performance tires come from technology partner Pirelli in sizes 275/30 ZR 20 and 355/25 ZR 21.

NOVITEC TRIDENTE sport suspensions allow customers to select their preferred ride height and damper settings. But that’s not all: For further increased day-to-day utility a version is available that raises front and rear axle by 40 millimeters at the push of button. After the driver has thus safely negotiated speed bumps or parking ramps the suspension can be lowered to normal level from the cockpit. If the suspension is not lowered by the driver it’ll revert to the normal level automatically once the car reaches a speed of 80 km/h.

Exclusive interior options including a custom-made fully leather interior in any desired color or upholstery round out the NOVITEC TRIDENTE program.
